Landline going straight to answerphone

My landline is going straight to answerphone and when I try to call any numbers, I get an engaged tone. Tried the service checker on the website and it says service is ok. Any suggestions?

Hi PaulF59,

Thanks for your post and welcome to our Community Forums!

Sorry to hear about this landline issue you're dealing with at the moment. I want to ask a few questions to get a handle on the problem -

  • When you call out and get the engaged tone, are all numbers affected, including mobile, landlines and businesses?
  • Do you ever get a message stating “These numbers are not available on our network”?
  • Are all the cables connected correctly and tightly?
  • If you've got it plugged into your Hub, can you try rebooting the Hub please to see if this resolves the issue?

Thanks,

Meg

I have something similar. I don’t use VM’s answerphone, but callers are getting "unable to connect, try again later. When dialling out I also get engaged for any number. Called in a fault 30 minutes ago and sending a technician tomorrow. Personally I don’t think there is any fault in my home, I would say it’s at the headend/exchange. My phone is through the hub, I’m in North London, EN4.

Just seen this post: https://community.virginmedia.com/t5/Home-Phone/Telephony-suddenly-disabled-in-Hub-5/td-p/5544531

same symptoms, they have looked at hub and it’s showing "telephony disabled ". Look at my hub and it also shows it’s disabled. @Megan_L  Seems to be widespread.

Thanks for explaining Tudor!

I can see there is indeed a widespread issue for VoC calls which is described as "Slow connecting of calls", this was raised yesterday and the team are still investigating it.

No estimated fix time/date has been announced yet but we'll update you if we get one.

I'm still unsure whether this is the fault affecting the OP though as they've described their issues a little differently to what we can see on the fault ticket so I'll still want to go through general fault steps. But as always, your help is greatly appreciated ❤

Same problem.  Has been like this for 4 days.  No incoming calls - unable to connect, try again later. Outgoing calls - all with engaged tone. Same with 150, 1571.

I am having the same issue. It started about 3 days ago. Cannot make outbound calls and when someone tries to ring me, it goes straight to voicemail.
I've done the usual hub reboot, checked connections etc, but it's not resolved.
Is this known fault still being investigated.

I'm 86 years old and my landline is my only way to speak to my son and daughter and need it sorted ASAP.
