Loss of Email - F010762348

As someone previously posted on this thread, different users are experiencing different problems. Four days ago, on Sunday evening, I was unable to connect to my VM webmail via MS Outlook 365. Outlook was reporting that my Email password was wrong (but it was obviously just relaying what VM webmail was reporting back to it).

This issue happens from time to time with VM Email and I always sit it out rather than try to change my Email password while VM Email is obviously down.

Frustrating, but I wasn't worried about my Emails as I use the POP3 interface, so had everything securely on my PC in *.PST files, which I regularly back up as a matter of routine.

Meanwhile, others on this thread were reporting all manner of other issues: some were reporting missing folders and Emails, while others were suddenly receiving the same Email twenty times.

I was able to logon to VM Email yesterday morning (Wednesday) and all my Emails and folders (at the VM webmail end) were intact. A few from early Wednesday morning had failed to drop into my MS Outlook Inbox but they were mostly junk anyway (Email from Facebook saying a lot has happened on Facebook since I last logged on etc.).

As I say, I wasn't particularly worried as I regularly backup my Outlook *.PST files, which contain all my Emails and folders going back to the 1990s. They are backed up to OneDrive, and a couple of locally attached hard disks.

As a POP3 user, I have never tried IMAP so don't understand why IMAP users can’t backup their own Emails and folders in a similar way. Or is that not possible with IMAP?

Using a computer without backups will always end in tears at some point.

Many of Virgin Media’s customers report having received the following notification today:

Problems are still being reported, and the latest official line on VMO2’s fault report is that they “hope to fix this by 23 June at 13:00“. IT Experts say, email problems like this can take several days to fully resolve. But for some, that will mark almost an entire working week without fully functional Virgin Media Mail access, and there’s no guarantee that it’ll be resolved by then either. Virgin Media email is no longer available to new customers, but many existing customers still rely on it for work. I wonder if this is indicative to VM eventually abandoning email totally especially after their merger with 02. 

I'm sure I'm not alone in being able to receive and send emails but still having no access to anything older than last Monday. To say this is massively inconvenient is an understatement. It may be true that few businesses rely on email systems like VM, but a lot of people, myself included, work on a voluntary basis for organisations and need access to - as in the case of the theatre I am involved with - literally thousands of emails sent and received over the last two years. Am I going to have to ask all  my contacts to send me all their messages again and forward mine back to me?!

It has been a few days since I lost my historic emails. The only communication I have received is that you are working flat out to restore them. I would like to have a time frame and regular updates. My husband in the same household, who also has  a Blueyonder account has had no problems with his. He still has all his emails.

Update - 22/06/23

We have now restored the ability to send and receive emails for all affected accounts. Our team are continuing to work flat out to restore historic emails into the inboxes of a small proportion of accounts. We apologise again for any inconvenience caused over the past two days.

It might be best to wait for Virgin Media to confirm their recover process is complete before attempt anything beyond the confirmed ability to send and receive

Hi Mod Team

How easy is it to add back in all the historic data stored in an individual's self created folders? A lot of my saved data is financial and not stored anywhere else than on my Virgin email

I'm missing emails in my inbox since the reported Virgin issue on the 19th / 20th june. This was made worse as i landed in Nashville Tennesse when the problem struck. Not sure whats occurred but i really need the contents back. No fuzzed about anything since. But need the historical emails. Any help 🙏 greatly appreciated. Kind regards Stephen 

Hi, can anyone help please? All my existing emails disappeared from one of my virgin.net accounts when the issues were reported earlier this week. They are missing from both webmail and email client. Nothing has come back and I can’t find any updates anywhere as I’m finding it difficult to navigate around this forum. Have tried asking mods but they don’t respond. Any help appreciated! Thanks 😊

After the recent crash of Virgin Media emails all the saved emails disappeared from my wife's account. When restored 650 reappeared but they were only multiple copies of some of the lost ones. Where are the remaining emails which were lost?
