Contract Renewal Prices

VM have recently gone live in my area and are the only option of full fibre and likely to be for the foreseeable future so I’m tempted to switch to them.

However the thing that is putting me off is huge price increases at end of contract.

Typically how big an increase do people end up with on renewal. After going through the calling up and threatening to cancel rigmarole of course!

Mine was going to rise from £30 to £66 so I had to leave but that was so hard with big issues that unfortunately I would urge everyone to avoid the hassle and never ever take out a contract with VM.  If you look on Martin Lewis's Money Saving website you can see other companies in your area and also the customer rating to assess the risk of getting bad customer service.

In my area there were companies like City Fibre who have put in fast cables and lots of good deals on companies that use that infrastructure.

    Good luck. 🍀

  • I have just responded to the Virgin email regarding the free exchange of my Tivo box for a 360, along with the confirmation and delivery date was an accompanying mail announcing that at the end of promotion my monthly bill will rise from £64 to an eyewatering £82, I will be researching other providers, a one third increase is too much and I am tired of having to beg annually for a better deal

No one can answer that question for you because VM tries to carve out an individual price with each and every customer at renewal by making the customer engage with a sales agent. We have seen past topics on here where customers have discovered that friends, or family members, are paying wildly different prices for the same service(s).

On the VM package pages it shows you the new customer pricing and also shown is the price after the minimum term. An existing customer should be able to renegotiate something between those two.

Unfortunately, those who are good at negotiating can often do better than those who are not.

Cancelling at the end of a minimum term can often bring a much improved renewal offer from VM but there is never any guarantee that such a call-back offer will actually come through.
