Wifi+whatsapp+parental controls

A few months ago we were “upgraded” to a Hub 5. Firstly, parental controls have failed. Private Browsing still allows inappropriate sites. I referred this to VM, failed.

Using whatsapp on my iphone via my own wifi, doesnt work. To download pics I have to use my own data.

Is it me or is there something Im missing?

  • Hi Off_switch,

Thanks for your post and welcome to our community.

We're sorry to hear you have some concerns regarding the parental controls and the WiFi.

Private browsing would bypass our web safe.
If there’s a website that can be accessed that you believe should be blocked as part of a category, you can report it through My Virgin Media:

    Sign in here

    Select Account Settings

    Select Online Security

Scroll to the bottom of the page and select Report a Website.

Regarding the WhatsApp issue, could you expand on this please? Does your iPhone not connect to your home WiFi?

Please pop back to us when you can.

Thanks. I was totally unaware that Private bypasses the settings. Whod have thought?
So there is no way to block say, all pornography sites? Thats a worry.

As for the whatsapp issue, I have noticed that at home with my phone using my wifi, downloading pictures is, well, v poor, and messages may also be slow. Switch to data and no problem. Weird non?

ive done all the usual, switch off etc but no change. Im going to monitor it and my data usage.

      many thanks!

Having VM Parental Controls enabled will block or limit access to Whatapp / Social Media / Office VPN / Wi-Fi Calling / Sky-Q etc ...

Options are either disable VM Parental Controls or change the DNS on your devices to be a Public DNS such as Google Public DNS or OpenDNS.
