Problem setting up UniFi AP on Hub 5

I have an access point which I’ve was using at home for the past year, Virgin Media hub 4 into a TP Link switch with POE.

My hub packed in so they’ve put me a new Hub 5 in yesterday and can’t get the AP to adopt. Factory reset it, rebooted the switch, comes up in the app as ‘ready for setup’ but then get the error ‘cannot reach AP’. I’ve also tried it on my laptop with the same result.

I have also tried my old AC Lite AP and that’s the same. Any ideas as it’s driving me mad! Suspect there’s a setting in the new hub but can’t see anything obvious. Thanks.

Does anything (e.g a laptop) that is connected via the PoE Network Switch make contact with the VM Hub 5 ?

Assuming the PoE Switch is has 1 Gb/s ports, it is connected to a 1Gb/s Hub 5 port ?

Is the POE Hub managed?  Does it have an IP address?  Is there a default SSID on the AP to allow you to connect and configure?

What subnet was the Hub4 on? The hub5 will be on 192.168.0.x. Did the AP have a fixed IP address in it as Ubiquiti recommend? Perhaps it would be best to factory reset the AP, instructions are on the ui.com site. I think the default address of the AP will then be 192.168.1.20, but it’s a long time since I did this so I may be wrong. Another thing to try is directly connecting a machine with a Ethernet cable to the AP. Set a fixed IP on the machine of say 192.168.0.250 and do a network scan to see if you find the AP. If that fails then try 192.168.1.250 in the machine.

get your own router with 1Gb ports and put hub in modem mode
