Setting up a new app password for Virgin email

I need to set up a new App password to connect the VM mail server to my outlook client. This password will take this form: word-next-more-last. 

Before recent changes, I had more than once changed this password. I recorded the procedure:

Sign in to My Virgin Media

  1. Go to Account settings, then Account details
  2. Tap Manage next to Manage your Virgin Media Mail app password under Virgin Media Mail
  3. Then, under Virgin Media Mail app password tap Generate new App password and follow the instructions.

A new secure password will be generated for you.

Now the Virgin Media Mail settings tab takes you to the identity and security options! Am I missing something? 

  •  To create one or update an existing email app password you need to follow these steps:

    Sign into the My Virgin media account for the email concerned with your VMO2ID

    Select Account Settings

    Select Identity & Security Settings

    Select Manage your products

    Select Manage email app password

    Click on the blue button 'Get New Password'

    Make a note of the generated password. This is what you use in the mail apps along with the vm email address as the username.

      Excellent. But why is this advice not available in online documentation? Or if it is, it is not in any obvious, intuitive place? I imagine that might not be your responsibility. Thanks again

      Graham,

      Can you please help me with a closely related related problem. I have two email addresses associated with my VM account. The primary one is my own and there is a secondary email address for my wife. To the best of my recollection, when I obtain a new APP password in the past it applied to both email addresses. The one I have just obtained (thanks to your help) allows Outlook to load my emails but this app password does not work with my wife's mailbox. Do I need to create a second app password specifically for her? If so, how to I navigate the My VM account to do this?

  • Same issue here. It has all got very confusing. When I got my new VMO2 ID I was given a new password for Thunderbird. I have a blueyonder email address, a virginmedia.com address and a secondary virginmedia.com address for my wife. I have lost the understanding of how the three are inter related! All three now work on webmail and all work in Thunderbird except the blueyonder outgoing mail. Can't figure out why and also why the VM ones work for mail in and out when I haven't changed the password for them from the original!
