Packet loss

Been getting terrible packet loss mostly in evenings last 6-10h then goes away. Coincides with poor upload speed ~1mbps (normally 100mbps) and upload modulation goes to 16, so indicative of noise on line. Here is the BQM Virgin 1gig BQM

Any ideas what’s causing it? Almost like something is being switched on and off…the tines and durations do vary a bit, thought it was temperature related but think that was a red herring as issue does not revert as temperature drops in evening.

Yep showing local fault, but did every time before. Think by time they look at it problem is resolved and nothing to see….unless legit being fixed each time

what area are you in? I had this problem last year when it was hot. they replaced the cable to my house and all that, but it persisted. The fix date kept extending but then it got colder and the issue stopped. Always about 4pm and ending at midnight.

started happening again this Wednesday (when it got hot). You can't speak to anyone who can say what the fault is so I have no confidence that they fix it and just wait out the heat.

terrible company but they know we're stuck as there is no competition in my area

St Albans, issue does not get fixed, comes back on any day temp reaches 24 C. System raises fault every time then I suspect clears itself next morning once temperatures come down. Takes out the connect from 4 ish. Not sure how to resolve intermittent issues like this

  • Problem still persists. Everyday temperature 23-24 degrees centigrade connection will degrade in the afternoon. As we have been having some particularly warm weather for the time of year have been happing a fair bit. fault lasts 8 hours ish, Line fault is registered each time but cleared the next day as fault has vanished with the cooler temperature overnight. I have raised a new complaint; the situation is getting very tedious. I appreciate intermittent faults are trickier to resolve but losing patience.

Yesterdays fault cleared overnight, got SMS at 11 saying fixed. Fault was back by 4pm. Engineer coming Tuesday, so maybe can diagnose issue properly, took me two hours on chat and phone to arrange.

Today's BQM, situation needs to be resolved, connection pretty useless when the problems kick in

        Hi User666,

Thanks for coming back and we're sorry this issue has continued. We're happy to hear that an engineer has been arranged though. They'll be able to check the hub and overall connection (internal and external) and work to get things resolved.

Please keep us posted on how the visit goes tomorrow.

        Many thanks,

Could be the temperature is taking the Hub’s power levels out of spec as the cable resistance changes with temperature.  Or the street cabinet is overheating?
