Indoor security camera and 5Ghz WiFi

Today, I received an upgraded router.  It's the number 5 hub.  Does that signify it's 5Ghz  WiFi?

It might explain if that's true.  Why I can't get my indoor security camera to work now.  Often they only work off 2.4 Ghz WiFi and not 5 Ghz WiFi.  Yet the Virgin blurb online says "The Hub 5 is Virgin Media's latest router, supporting dual-band wireless channels ..." Does that (dual band) mean a camera geared to 2.4 Ghz should still work?

Can anyone confirm the new router is indeed 5 Ghz?  And whether the camera should still work (which it isn't at present)?. The problem with it is somewhere else?

Thanks.

The Hub 5 supports dual band Wi-Fi on both 2.4 GHz & 5 GHz just like any other VM Hub.

What the Hub 5 does not do is pass network traffic between the 2.4 & 5 GHz bands, unlike other VM Hubs.

To install a 2.4GHz camera ( or any other 2.4GHz IoT ), connect to the Hub 5 menu at http://192.168.0.1/

Disable the 5GHz Wi-Fi, bringing your mobile on to the same 2.4 band as the camera and perform the configuration.

Successfully pinged between devices connected to Hub 5's 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands.

If you can't get it to work look to get your own wifi router with 1Gb ports and use hub in modem mode

Thank you for confirming the 2.4 & 5GHz ping works.

So perhaps most of the issues we constantly read about devices not installing on 2.4GHz and not being able to managed by a mobile on the 5GHz band are down to what has long been suspected, not reading the furnished manuals and / or not following the installation steps to the letter.

    castwar1930,

on the Hub 5 consider setting unique Wi-Fi Network Names to distinguish between Wi-Fi bands, for example:

    • sign in to Hub 5
    • select Advanced settings > Wireless > Security
    • append the text -24 to WiFi Network Name (SSID), for example VM01234567 to VM01234567-24
    • select Apply changes
    • then connect devices requiring 2.4Ghz band to  VM01234567-24
