Sign up to volt initially or once VM is up and running?

I am planning to sign up to VM and saw somewhere in this sub that if you sign up to a volt deal they automatically give you an o2 sim. I am currently an o2 customer so is it best for me to take out a normal plan (M250 with £50 credit) and then add volt afterwards for the speed boost?
