Will Sky Sports + be recordable?

Switched to 360 for Sky Sports +, but I will be away for first week of season in Ireland.  I guess TV GO won’t work there, but will I be able to record a couple of games to watch when I return, or will they just be streamed live and disappear?

  • Hi arrgee1991

I'm sorry but streamed programs cannot be recorded.

Have you checked the /football-on-sky/championship page to see if any of the games you want to watch will be available on the Main Event or Sky Sports channels?  If they are then you will be able to record them as usual.

TVGo won't work In the Irish Republic, however only Sky Sports Mix and Sky Sports news is available on VM TVGo. You would need to use the Sky Sports app or log into the Sky Sports site using a web browser to watch any other Sky Sports content. You could possibly use the Sky Sports app or web page using a VPN.

  • The sky sports app worked for me in Crete back in May so you should be able to view live.

Anything with UK exclusive sports rights will be blocked outside the UK. Sky also blocks the use of VPNs or any kind of encryption used to access the Sky Sports app for live streams. On Demand highlights are not usually affected. TV Go just redirects to the Sky Sports app for everything except Sky Sports News & Sky Sports Mix.

I can absolutely tell you that I watched Leeds v Norwich play off second leg live on sky sports app in Crete.   I was using O2 mobile not WiFi.

Fundamentally only linear channels are recordable, which is why broadcast channels are always preferable for live events - given the choice.

Most of Sky's sporting rights are for the UK & Ireland. They tend to include that in their requirements when negotiating rights deals.

Virgin Media Ireland have their own arrangements with Sky, so while you can use your VM UK login to access the Sky Sports app, Sky will detect you are connecting through an Ireland server & block the live channels. Sky also block stream encryption & VPN use, so cannot be circumvented that way. If the games are on the usual channels (SS Premier, SS Football etc) you will be able to record as normal, but anything streamed exclusively with Sky Sports + won’t be recordable.

  • I suppose the other unknown is if the games will be able to watch on replay via SkySports+.  I believe this is possible on the previous streaming options.
