Virgin TV 360 not recording

Hello,

I’ve been trying to watch Last Week Tonight with John Oliver using the on demand catch-up service, but I’ve not been able to view it for two weeks, so I thought I’d jump into my recordings. I’ve seen all my recordings since my upgrade has only recorded a small portion of the programme not the whole show. This has lead to me taking out a Now TV subscription that should be an unnecessary expense, is there any way I can get some assistance with this problem?

Kind regards and thanks in advance

John

  • Hi hbkjohnhill,

Welcome back to our Community Forums and thanks for your post.

Sorry to hear the recording feature on your box is not working as intended.

Have you tried resetting the box to see if that helps?

      Hi again,

I’ve done a factory reset and I’ve set a recording for this evening. Hopefully it works. If not, I’ll report back

Look’s like it fully recorded, had to check diagnostics to connect it to my network, but otherwise fine

A bit of an update: I tried to record this week’s episode of Last Week Tonight and it only recorded 75% of it. I tried to look for it on demand and it isn’t there. I don’t want to fork out for another NOW TV subscription, so is there any way I can get some help with this?

    Hello

I seem to have a recurrence of my old problem. I tried to record a programme last night, but could only get a partial recording (75%, around 25 minutes out of 40). This is really not good considering one of my other series links is recording full hour long programmes. Not having this particular programme means I have to solely rely on it appearing on Catch-up On Demand, however it hasn’t appeared on Catch-up On Demand meaning I can only access it on a NOW TV subscription that I was hoping I would never need to take out. I’m sure the programme will turn up On Demand eventually (the last one took two days), but the recording issue is top priority here.

Is there any way I can get some assistance?

Kind regards and thanks in advance

      Strikethrough

EDIT merged with original thread. Virgin TV 360 not recording | Virgin Media Community - 5675761

Most of the episodes for that program are around 40 minutes in length.  Within the Catchup section the actual program is listed to start at 23:35 and end at 00:20.   That's 55 minutes in length. and the scheduled times tie in with those shown in the EPG for that episode broadcasting on Sky Comedy.

However, on Sky Showcase the program listing in the EPG shows the start time is listed as 23:00 and end time as 23:45.

Which channel were you making the recording from? I'm asking because the metadata that's being used by VM may the reason the recording is ending early.

I would expect the episode to probably be added to catchup service within the next few days to a week.

I’m recording it from Sky Comedy. I know the programme is 40 minutes long, just disappointing that it only records 25 minutes, while another series link appears to have recorded the episodes in their entirety.

Incidentally, the Catch-Up list for this series actually has an episode missing. Episode 25 is unavailable

I’ve been testing my two 360 boxes to try and figure out what might be the problem.
My downstairs box was used to record a 90 minute film, but could only record 25 minutes of it. My upstairs box meanwhile recorded the Daily Show and I have a feeling it might have worked, but I haven’t had the chance to test it yet.

It worked! Praise the Lord! Might explain a few things but we’ll see.

Did another test recording last night of a programme on Sky Comedy on the downstairs 360 box, I looked into the recordings list this morning and while two series links are recording full programmes, the programme I tried to record last night could only do 9 minutes.
It states at the bottom of the recording that it ‘stopped due to a power failure’, might that be a cause for concern?

There may have been a momentary drop in power, such as ones that make the lights flicker, which can sometimes cause equipment to fail, although if this were the case I would expect you would have needed to turn the 360 on again.

It may be a problem with the 360 power supply/plug, however it's more likely to be a hard drive problem.   You can normally check for that by pausing a live TV program and then playing it back. That's the same as recording, so nay problems there would indicate the hard drive is probably at fault.

Is there enough space on the hard drive for recordings?  On that box go to Recordings > Recorded > View All and in the top left corner of the screen you will see a small horizontal bar  along with the percentage of the box that has been used for recordings.  This should ideally be less than 90 per cent.

I’ve just checked my 360 box in my bedroom. My % is 0%, but with only one recording. I have also paused live TV and resumed it after 30 seconds and it looks OK to me. Should I do it for longer?

I will check the other box later on
