Virgin 360 support for Infrared control

I've had a few emails and prompts trying to persuade me to update my V6 box to 360.

My understanding is that the 360 platform has moved to RF control only, with no option to turn IR support back on. This is a show stopper for any one like me using a universal/programmable IR remote to control a complex AV system. The single remote is an essential ingredient in that system that no amount of minor bells & whistles like voice control will compensate for.

It’s enough of an inconvenience that I would seriously look into changing provider if it was ever to be forced upon me (which I assume is where this is going).

So a question for Virgin Media really: Given that the hardware supports both IR and RF, is there any consideration being given to a software update that allows the customer to switch back to InfraRed control if preferred?

Thanks

  • Hi werewhelk,

Thanks for your post and welcome to our community.

Unfortunately, the 360 box remote doesn't use infra red and we would be unable to change this.

We do really appreciate the feedback and we will pass this on internally. We're always looking at ways to improve our products and services.

For now however, there is no option to use infra red on the 360 remote.

If you do have any further questions, please pop back to us and we'd be happy to help.

  • Hi there, I am a Control4 dealer and have a working IR driver to control the TV360 boxes. I can also advise on an "off the shelf" universal remote which has the right IR codes in its database.

Hi Crustyloafer, we are also a control4 dealer and have a client that just converted their TiVo box to a 360 box and therefore lost their integration. Any chance of sharing your driver?  Would be appreciated.

Hi can you advise please. I have 3 v6 box’s in a rack in the garage - these are then distributed round the house to 8 TVs using HD Anywhare 4k matrix

so it’s important to have full IR control

      thanks

  • Depending on how complex your AV system is the One For All URC7125 or  URC1240 seem to be popular choices as an alternative remote for the 360, the 1240 is slightly cheaper but can manage 4 devices. Might be worth a look on their website and then check the prices on Currys and Amazon  etc.

        Hi biggm68 👋.

Thanks for reaching out to us with your query, apologies but upgrading to 360 with your current set up. The option would be to upgrade the boxes that you have to 360 and maintain those in the rooms where most desired and look into our multiroom option where we have our Stream boxes.

TV360 would require additional installation of cabling to relocate them from the garage to the retrospective rooms, where as Stream would not, the allowance for Stream boxes is 6.

I would seriously look into changing provider if it was ever to be forced upon me (which I assume is where this is going).

VM have been promoting TV360 to existing TiVo & V6 customers for a few years now, and I'm sure will continue to do so.

The V6 remains fully supported, and - especially in the recording arena - has many functions that are missing from TV360.

The Sky Sports+ HD multiscreen was developed for the V6 and launched in Nov 2024, and the UK-TV app was launched on V6 a few months back. Both very much on the quiet, but launched all the same. That, to me, is not the indicator of a software platform and/or TV box that's going to be withdrawn anytime soon.
