Surround sound now not working after V360 install

Last weekend I installed my new 360 box.

It recognised my Samsung tv & my Onkyo 5.1 surround sound system.

All seemed well on the evening of install however when I turned the whole system on from the new remote the following day everything turned on but there is a very loud hum coming from the surround speakers. No matter what I do I can't get rid of the loud hum. I've even totaly disconnected it from the tv & 360 box & the hum is still there.
It looks like the 360 has blown something in my surround system. Never had a problem with it until connecting the 360 box.

  • Hi Ali_and_Dave 👋.

Thanks for reaching out to us and welcome to the Community Forums, sorry to hear of the issues that you are facing with your surround sound system. Every sound system does have limitations to what can and cannot be used in the event of an overload along with how it was set up with what cabling that you used. As the 360 box supports higher definition sound and vision connecting this to non supporting equipment can un-sync the dialogue from the picture and is advised that you should always run a soundbar or surround sound via the tv via ARC using HDMI. Yes, you can use the 360 remote control as a support to switch other devices on and off as well as some other control abilities to reduce the amount of remote controls being used.

Could you please advise us on how you set up your sound system to the equipment and cable usage?

Thank you for the quick reply
I can confirm that the surround sound system was setup via the tv via ARC using HDMI and has been for several years. It was only when powering it up on the 360 box that the problem occurred.
I have disconnected the surround system now & can't even use it as a stand alone radio anymore as something must have blown inside.

The 360 should be connected to the Onkyo and the Onkyo to the Samsung's HDMI 1 input using good high-speed cables. The humming is probably caused by a ground loop, so ensure that all devices - TV, Onkyo and 360 - are plugged into the same power strip with a good quality multi-socket extension lead.
