Low humming noise

I switched from Sky to Virgin in August, using a 360 box. I have been hearing a low humming noise that I’ve finally figured out is the 360 box, looking on this forum it’s quite a common fault. I read something about the different makes of boxes but I don’t know how to find out the make? I paid £50 to Virgin for the box because the default for new customers is now a streaming box, which I don’t want. It looks like Virgin are giving out refurbished boxes according to other posts, any ideas how I can tell if it’s a refurb and if Virgin still give out brand new boxes? Thank you!

    All VM kit is rented and then returned at the end of a contract, to be refurbished.  As VM's main focus is now the Stream box going forward, I would say the chances of getting a new 360 box are very slim.  They have been around for some time, so the vast majority are usually refurbished.

    VM are gradually phasing out recording boxes, and in some areas they are not available at all. So it's most unlikely that they will be buying in any new ones.

    You will have to accept what they provide, but of course if it's faulty you should demand a replacement.
