Ringer not working with incoming calls.

Noticed that we had not had any incoming calls on our landline for over a week. (we usually have at least one potential scam call a day as a rule).

We have a traditional base unit handset that is plugged into a standard copper wire type BT socket.

After further investigation we have established that we have a dial tone and can make outgoing calls. Also all other features of the base unit are working.

We have no ringer sound to alert us to incoming calls. We have arranged for my son to ring us at a specific time and if we pick up the handset we can talk to him normally. He has explained that when he tried ringing previously there was a ringing tone at his end but when we did not answer (no ringer at our end) the phone did not default to the answerphone option.

I have tried reporting this using the 150 number but I was put through the the call centre in India and could not get any real sense of what I should do or how the fault was going to be addressed.

Would appreciate if a Moderator could message me to try to sort this issue.
