Questions About Exporting A BT Number

Hi

Just to explain the background.

I have a BT number on the upstairs phone and a Virgin number downstairs. I only use the BT phone number and I don't really want to continue to pay for two phonelines. I have my TV and Broadband with Virgin so it would make the most sense to have everything in one place with the BT number replacing the Virgin number.

I have just spoken to someone and they said it would take 10 days to transfer the number from BT to Virgin after the BT line is discontinued on 11 December. I have spoken to BT and they said they were approached on 20 November regarding the switch. By who? I didn't speak to them. I am concerned about the 10 days as I don't want to be without the phone (literally nobody has the Virgin number), particularly at this time of year. Is this time period correct and is there anything you can suggest to alleviate my concern?

I assume to convert both phones will require some extra wiring to the upstairs phone?

How does this fit in with the digital upgrade? Is that something that will take place after the BT number is exported?

Regards

Ian

Forget about phone lines.  Just port your BT number to a VoIP supplier.  You then can use the number no matter who your ISP is.
