Keeping phone number, question

All being well, we are expecting to move at the end of this month. We will be keeping virgin media broadband, but we also have a virgin landline in our current house. We are wondering what will happen to our landline when we move, as we are moving out of the area and the area code will be different - can we still keep the basic number or do we have to have a completely new number? Thanks.
