Is this the right landline phone?

My parents just renewed their existing VM contract and added on a landline. They were advised they needed an engineer visit to install the phone, they were expecting to receive the modern black phone that’s advertised on VMs website, but instead has been given a horrible white phone with huge buttons on. The engineer has also left the cables in a bit of a mess which my parents are afraid to touch.

Should they have been given the phone that is clearly advertised on VMs website, and if we need to can we swap this horrible white phone out for any third party phone?

Its difficult to see exactly what the engineer left in that photo?  There seems to be a cellular aerial on the phone as well?  Also looks like an ATA device? (Phillips).  What is the black box under the phone?  Did you parents ask for any sort of Battery Backup phone for vulnerable persons?

  • Hi Bluefusion 👋 Welcome back to the community forum! Thanks for posting. Sorry to hear these concerns about your parents landline service!

So, we don't provide handsets for landline - the picture you have posted is one of our Emergency Back Up Lines. (V3 with a phone). These are provided at a customers request when they advise us they are reliant on the landline service in case of emergencies. There's some more information about this device, how it's set up and how to use it on this 👉 Home phone user Guide  (Pages 36-41).

As long as it stays connected they can move it - make sure to keep the antennae in the upright position. It's usually connected via the hub, but it's not clear from this photo if that's the case. Let us know if you are needing us to book in an additional appointment for your parents to offer any further support with the landline setup.

Hope that clears things up! All the best. 🌞

The photo on the website looks like an AI generated image, it is not a real phone. It’s represents the type most people choose for landline services, but line providers don’t actually sell them. It just advertises the service you plug them into.

It’s like a company selling car insurance. There might be a picture of a car on their website, but they are selling insurance for the car, not the car as well.
