Sky sports on web browser - an unknown error has occurred, wholesale error

On chrome on my laptop I tried logging into Sky Sports via Virgin Media login page. From the sky sports page, I click login 'Virgin Media UK sign in', and then I am brought to a page that says "There was an unexpected error" (addr: skyid.sky.com/error/wholesaleerror). Incognito mode on Chrome does not work, and neither does Safari. 

I have tried clearing the cache and all cookies for sky sports but nothing seems to work. Chrome is up to date. Others seem to have had a similar problem and for some the fix just happened out of the blue, but none have worked for me.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Seeing the same issue, looks like it could be an auth issue on the sky end because logging into the virgin website works fine. Hope someone can look into this!

    Update - this has just started working for me now

  • I get the same issue and was hoping to tag along here and see if there is a solution. I also see there is an issue with Virgin TV in the area, but surely that should not affect Sky Sports. 

    Tried ringing the support, the usual topics we went through. Cookies, re-install the app on the tablet. The browser was unblocked and no VPN. Have I got too many registered devices and so on? 

  • Update - it is now working for me as well! Hopefully fixed long-term and the issue does not reappear

  • I am getting exactly the same issue as Pirlmo1.

    I have tried restarting and clearing cookies etc but still not working.

    Please can I have some help

      Hi janTsafc, thanks for the message and welcome to the forums. 

      Can you confirm what browsers you are using, is pop ups are switched of and if this works when going into incognito mode?

        Hi. I am getting the same error message. I have tried clearing cache, etc. I am using Chrome. This is very frustrating and so please can someone help.

  • Hi - I am having the same issue on my iPad. I've been able to login on my phone, but not the iPad - just get 'unknown error has occurred' and no further recourse. Have uninstalled and installed a number of times. Very frustrating.

      We're sorry to hear about the problem you're experiencing 😔

      When you say you've "uninstalled and installed a number of times", are you referring to the Sky Sports app there?

      In terms of trying to access Sky Sports via a browser on your iPad, have you tried different browsers?

    I found the following on the Sky Community which might help

     /Sky-sports-online-player-not-working 

    Did you remove the hidden files and folders the desktop app uses?

    - Uninstall the Sky Sports Player app

    - Type 'run' in the search bar and open the 'Run' app

    - Type in '%AppData%' and click 'OK' and delete the 'Sky Sports' folders

    - Click back on 'AppData' and go into the 'LocalLow' folder

    - Click on the 'Cisco' folder, then the 'VideoGuard' folder

    - Delete the 'SKY_GB-SKY_SKYSPORTS' folder

    - Restart you computer

    - Download the Sky Sports Player app again
