Renewal song and dance?

My 18 month contract is coming to an end in the middle of Feb, and this is the first time I'm not on a student contract so it will be the first time I do the whole threatening to cancel to not get a ripoff on renewal. I'm currently paying £30 for an M125 contract which I got from haggling, which is projected to go up to £54 .

What's the process for this? I know they are very specific with when you're supposed to put in notice and who to call etc so wanted to get ahead of the curve. I got a letter in the post from EE saying they've just extended full fibre to my address for £31 p/m which I plan to use for negotiating.

  • Why would you want to stay with VM when you can get EE full fibre? The EE connection and customer service should be superior and the price is good too.

Why on earth bother haggling when you have that choice?

if EE are doing it for £31 then there will be others doing it for less with better long term deals - many of the smaller isp's offor 2 year fixed deals and that means NO increase each april unlike EE who will tell you its fixed but has a cost of living increase

any offer to get you away from this shower has to be good

May I make an observation, don’t ever, ever take up a career as a professional poker player - because you are rubbish at it!

Sorry, really sorry, yes I know it’s harsh, but if VM have any idea at all (this is not a given) then, they may be able to tie your forum username with your actual VM account - maybe by the email addressed you used to register, maybe by the IP address. So possibly, when you do call VM to ‘negotiate’, a massive red banner appears on the call centre agent’s PC which states “This person is just trying in on, they’ll mention EE, but it’s a negotiating tactic, they don’t actually want to leave”, offer them the bare minimum and see what happens!

Like I said, it’s a poker game, bluff and counter-bluff - will you actually leave, honestly doesn't look like it - and VM know that!
