Path being dug up without notificaiton

I have just left for work and my Wife tells me that Virgin Media are digging up the path outside my house at 7:45am. No notification was given about this. The Sam thing happened a few weeks ago where they dug 3 small holes and filled with Tarmac which has still not set. How do I make a formal complaint.

Really not happy about

  • How do I make a complaint about my path being dug up without notification. I am not a Virgin Media customer so cannot use the Web Form as it requires registration and asks questions as though I am a customer.

Only option I can see is post a letter.

If you think VM is conducting work in the street in an unacceptable way, make a complaint to your local highways authority who issue permits for such work.

    VM complaints info is here

    https://www.virginmedia.com/help/complaints

VM forum team staff don't usually reply in the 'Community Natter' forum.

Edit: Now moved to 'Quick Start'

Hi. I have been to this section of the VM site. I can only call or send a letter. Web forms are for Virgin Media customers. Thanks anyway.

The work will be carried out by VM's sub-contractors. There is likely to be a long (and disinterested) chain of (mis/non) communication between you logging a complaint via VM and it ending up at its destination (somewhere).

What is the specific thing you are complaining about - start time of the work or the fact you had no notification of it, blocking access to your home or something else?

You may get a better result to find out what is going on, or any other info, by talking direct to the people doing the work.

Just to be clear, is this on your own private path, or the public pavement outside? Post a picture.

  • I think your only complaint that might land is that the work started 15 minutes before 08:00, and maybe if access has not been maintained to your house (though you don't mention whether that is the case or not). You don't need to be informed of someone working in the public highway but there will be a section on your council's website that lists all the permitted works taking place if you were interested.

Sounds like trial holes were drilled to locate other services & now the main work is taking place. There will then be temporary infill to let the ground settle before a permanent top surface is put on.

Digging is often done for installations or repairs for the existing network. If this work is being done near to an existing cabinet then another possibility is that this is for the overbuild of HFC network whereby VM is installing new cabinets next to existing ones and pushing fibre through ducts between the cabinets.

It's all speculation until the OP posts a picture or two showing what has actually been done.
