Moving to address that already has Virgin Media Broadband

Hi,

I'm looking to start a Virgin Media Broadband subscription for a flat that I've purchased and am moving into on 6th August once the sale has completed. I don't currently have a Virgin Media subscription and never have, but when I go to purchase it says "As a Virgin Media account already exists here, we may need to delay sending your kit for a few days while we settle this account."

My question is, if I place an order now, will the current owners of the property have their account terminated immediately, or will it be terminated on 6th August when I move in and will my service begin on this date? I obviously don't want to leave them without internet until the date of my move!

I'd like for my broadband subscription to start immediately on 6th August as I'll need it for work, but not sure if it's best for me to order now, or to ask the current occupants to terminate their subscription and order once they've had their subscription cancelled.

Also the price of the Gig1 service has randomly increased by £5/month since yesterday, there was no mention of a specific sale happening at the time, so do Virgin just randomly change prices on a daily basis? It was £30.99/month two days ago, then £29.99/month yesterday, and now it's up to £34.99/month.

    I wonder if VM does smart pricing (using cookies to test how keen you are). Try looking again but in incognito/private browsing and let us know how you get on.

      Thanks I did think they might do something like this. I've tried clearing cookies etc but am still getting the most recent price. It might be tied to the address you enter when searching for services, so I can't really reset that as they'll know the address was searched before. Hopefully there is another random price drop at some point

      I've just done a quick check for Gig1 at my home address.  The VM website is showing it's available for £29.99, however the scrolling down the page and looking at the small print in The Legal Stuff section it's showing at £35.99.   Inputting postcodes from 3 local towns shows the same £29.99 price point.

      Searching on three comparison sites it shows as £35.99 although those sites also offer a £100 bill credit.

    If the  current owners are taking their VM service to their new home their account will be automatically closed on moving day. However if owners should close their account but don't, then VM, after an investigation, will terminate it - but it won't be a quick process.

      Thanks for the reply, the current owners are moving in with family whilst they wait for their own house purchase to complete, so I doubt they will be keeping their account open, I'm not sure if the place they're buying has Virgin services available though. I guess it would be best for me to ask the current owners to terminate their contract through via the estate agent and hope they comply!

    VM requires a 30-day notice period for canceling broadband services even after the minimum contract term has ended. So, they should already have given notice and you should certainly ascertain if this has been done for your mutual benefit.

      Could it happen more quickly if I just go ahead and purchased online, as the message does say "As a Virgin Media account already exists here, we may need to delay sending your kit for a few days while we settle this account.", which seems to me might be a lot quicker than 30 days. if the current owners are no longer at the address, I don't see why they'd have to keep the account open for 30 days.
