Is this a good sign?

long story short… virgin started to install services in my street in 2023. All permissions were signed but they stopped half way up the street and then emailed to say they were not installing at my property after all. I was just about to give up and sign up to Sky Q but then this morning I noticed this fresh spray paint on the closest connections. Can anyone suggest if this is a good sign? Sadly I’m not getting any info from virgin themselves so hoped someone here may have been in a similar situation and may be able to shed some light.

The large rectangle looks like the site for a street cabinet (like the one in the distance in the last picture). In the second picture they intend to break into the existing cable to fit a tee. That might be to feed one or more new connections.

You won't get any information direct from VM, but if you can catch the workmen in the street they are usually helpful.

  • Virgin have replied to say they think there may be work going on to extend the services. Let’s hope my house is next!

Just a guess from what I can see:

  • Thanks for taking the time to look at this! :) here’s the rest of the photo, this box is at the end of the pavement outside the last property they supply to. Across the road is my property that they don’t have any connections going to yet. Do you think they’re just completing their old works and I shouldn’t get my hopes up?

Bearing in mind the distribution cab is already in situ, the big excavation may just be a “reinstatement” to finish off properly. If you are on the other side of the road they may extend the duct on the other side of the road crossing to service the rest of the properties.

Your best option is to look out for the workman when they come and try asking them what’s happening.

  • Alas the paint has gone so it was definitely wishful thinking 🤦‍♂️

Has it rained a lot? That type of paint soon dissolves when it’s wet, maybe before the technicians could come.

  • It has rained I won’t lie, but I found there was a council permit for work to happen (thanks to the link posted above), which expires today. Sadly I think I’ll have to resort to plan B and go for Sky after all. It’s incredibly frustrating that nobody at Virgin can offer any insight into these things.
