The frustrations of trying to renegotiate my contract by phone!
I've spent over an hour on the phone to a variety of call centres and retention teams. The initial call was terrible, unable to hear her, she couldn't explain packages, bills or options. I was finally put through to Retention 2 team (even though the original person told me this was not possible). The package I'm being offered is still more expensive and considerably more than the option as a new customer £104 vs £52,
A similar package with Sky is £71 or with BT is £61 (I understand these are for new customers of course)
The crazy thing is if I don't switch it will be £103.35 and if I do it will be £106 for essentially the same package, although apparently I'll get better discounts in the future because it will move me from Maxit to Mega TV?) If they just offered me a deal at around £80 (which is now what I'm paying) I'd stay.
As a loyal customer of over 25 years I would though retaining me might be something they would value but it seems not.
The only reason I've not switched in the past is that I valued the fibre optical speed, but BT (and Sky) now have installed fibre in the road, so I'm much more likely to switch now.
I used to have to do this dance every year with my car insurance but discovered a company whose renewal quote always matches the best price I can find online to within a few £'s - hence I've stuck with them for 10 years.
I’ve just had the identical experience and just cancelled too. Been with NTL/VM for a similar time as you but finally got fed up with this stupid dance every renewal. The thing that peeved me off the most is their final offer was about 30% more than if I were a new customer!
