Issue with signing up with salesman at door

Hi a couple of evenings ago I had a salesman come to my door and sign me up. He said I needed to take a sim offer to get the broadband package and for them to pay the termination cost as im still in contract with current provider.

It started off being £5 for sim then crept up as I went through the sign up, and by doing this I'd get broadband for 23.99 at 256gb I think it was as it would make it a Volt? He did say I'd need to give him a different email address as I already have an O2 contract. So I did although wasn't convinced.

He also said I didn't need a tv licence for Virgin tv, I questioned this and said you need a tv licence for any live tv and bbc I player, he said no you just need it for live sports. Im not having a tv package but concerned this misinformation is being given out.

He said he would cover the termination cost so I thought Virgin would pay this, later in the conversation I discovered I had to pay and I would be credited £40. Having received the text from my current provider while he was still at the door and it was more than £40, he was insistent that the cost would ho down. Again not convinced.

Fast forward to later in the evening where I'm receiving a bombardment of texts and emails. I received one saying the sim order couldn't be processed as my email was already on record. I spent the next morning, around 2 to 3 hours on the phone trying to sort this, getting no where. I called the number on the email and yet no one could help. I was passed around for most of the morning.

I then spoke to someone who said they'd look into and call me back last night between 6 and 7. But no phone call.

Just looking for advice really, I can't cope with hours on the phone again trying to resolve and to be honest it seems a red flag about how things will pan out in the future. Am I just being harsh? How can I resolve the sim issue, which I was told i needed to get the broadband package. Thanks

The salesman has told you a bunch of lies to get his commission. Just cancel the contract, which you can do without any cost.

If you really want Virginmedia broadband (did you, before this guy persuaded you?), go to the website and choose what you want from there.

And never buy anything from anyone at your door.

You are being very wise in regard to the number of red flags raised during your dealing with the sales agent.

There have been numerous past topics on here complaining about the activities of VM's field sales agents and how the deal which was offered in the home failed to materialise.

This is particularly true in the case of paying off early termination fees (which is not something VM does AFAIK).

All of the above problems are usually compounded by the fact that typically no detailed written record of the offer is available. Once the agent has your contact/bank info they frequently become uncontactable if any problems arise.

Sorry to hear you've had a confusing start to things. So I can get a few more details from you, I've popped you over a private message.
