Direct debits payments.

Hi all hoping I can get some answers and advice again!! Please if anyone knows

But I like to know what to do and how  to do it in the correct way. What's next ?

I managed to set up my own VM account now so what I like to no is how do I set up the direct debit for my own VM account?

And cancel the direct debit that is still an active direct debit on  what was my ex partner account? will I have cancel the old direct debit payments first? because I don't want to be paying double and don't want 2 Active direct debits going on at same time Or will virgin automatically close his old account and the  direct debit payments?

will it affect my new direct debit payments with my own new VM account?

Or should I stop the direct debit payments  with my bank on my end for old one.

so I can  set up the new direct debit payments for my  new VM account?

Or will I get email or something with instructions on what to do and when to do it ?

Hopefully it makes sense anyway thanks anyone

I don't think you can do what you want. The direct debit is set up by VM when they set up an account.

VM will normally close one account at an address and open a new one. If you want to transfer a existing account from one name and account to different ones you will need to ask VM to do it but they may not agree.

  • Hi bella35, thanks for coming back to us on our Community Forums.

If you've been able to set up your own new Virgin Media account then this will not have any pre-existing direct debits attached to it and it would simply be a case of adding your own, which you can do via this section of your My Virgin Media account.

In regards to the account in your ex-partners name, this would need to be closed either formally or via a "Goneaway" form - which is used when it's confirmed that the account holder has left the address of where the services are installed and has no intention of returning.

You can of course also cancel any pre-existing direct debits held with Virgin Media and other companies/organisations via your online banking where this is required.

    Thanks,

Hi yes I do believe a goneaway form was done already as I was wasn't able to make a new account in my name  before VM had done that for me

Okay, once the goneaway has been completed, you should receive notification of your installation and new account information, such as your new account number and contracts.

If you've a new account, you'll also receive new equipment, so ensure that the older equipment is returned to us with the prepaid packaging that will arrive 10 days after the disconnection to save any potential unreturned equipment charges.

It's also worth mentioning, to save any confusion, that if you have a new account, your first bill will be a double bill as we bill in advance, as it's a new account with a new billing cycle for the new services. Not to be confused with being billed twice for the two different accounts. If this did occur, it would be two separate bills for each account. It's up to you how you would like to proceed with your direct debit on your ex-partner's account. The direct debit would cease once the account has been completely closed and the equipment returned, as there would be no further service charges or unreturned fees to pay.

Please let us know if you are having any further issues or have any questions at all. We'll be here to help on the Community Forums if needed.
