No.
VM support does not do remote access.
The affiliated/paid-for 'Gadget Rescue' service may use remote access to devices but no idea what software they use.
AnyDesk is a popular choice for scammers who impersonate VM support.

Simple answer- No.
Longer answer - even if VM did use remote access tools, if you get a call out of the blue from some-one claiming to be from VM (or any other organisation) never allow them to access your device. You'll regret it!

Thanks both; that is very interesting to read.
Even more interesting, my friend rang VM yesterday over WiFi issues, and ended up speaking to an offshore support worker.
Very coincidentally, within half an hour, and for the remainder of the day, he started getting numerous calls, all supposedly from VM, probably VoIP, telling him that he needs to allow them to install Anydesk on his device.
It is therefore my strong opinion that someone is passing over VM customer details to a 3rd party scammer, whether or not for financial gain I wouldn't like to say.
A strong statement, but it is far too much of a coincidence in my humble opinion.
As an aside, I certainly wouldn't allow 3rd party access, unless I knew who it was and what it was for. I used to use Go To resolve in a former job so understand the concern.

This suggestion has been put forward on many past topics.
It may well be possible but I can't recall any past topics where any solid evidence has been put forward to bridge the gap between suspicion and proof. It would be quite a hard thing for any individual customer to prove conclusively IMO.

AnyDesk and TeamViewer are indeed the tools of choice for offshore scammers.

I wouldn't trust anyone even if it was genuine!

I agree with you, but it still doesn't sit well with me.
VM are recommending Truecaller to identify spam calls. However, Truecaller has been called into account for massive data breaches, involving lots of client data, not only phone numbers. Maybe time for VM to do a bit of research themselves before still advocating it?
