Another vote for media mode on Hub 5x
I am new customer, still in cooling off period. FTTP with Hub5x, first time on FTTP. For the last 6+ years and 3 ISPs I have run my home network through my own router and DNS (Pi-Hole), IPS modems put in the modem mode. Now I can't, and I can't even disable wifi completely on Hub 5x. It did not cross my mind before I ordered Virgin that it would not be possible to do this. It is ridiculous as there is no technical reason not to let customers choose modem mode or use their own custom DNS. I chatted with customer service and my repeated questions about justification for this decision were ignored. So if anyone in the company is reading this, please do something about it. PS I have tried various options suggested on the web and these forums, but nothing works. I will try to set it up with double NAT but if it doesn't work, I will cancel.129Views1like6CommentsModem Mode stopped working since Tuesday's outage (Hub 5x)
I managed to painstakingly get it to work a few weeks ago with my Unifi Express 7 but last night after a brief outage it has stopped passing a WAN IP to the Unifi Router. I've spent hours and hours trying every variant of the Reddit threads and forum posts on how to enable it and it WILL NOT for the life of me pass an IP Address to the WAN Port once it's in Modem Mode. What I did last time was the following: Connect the Unifi Router to Hub Port 1. Connected to the Hub portal 192.168.0.1 via a laptop connected to the Unifi Router LAN. Disabled DMZ, WiFi, Firewall, UPnP and DHCP. When I disable DHCP it annoyingly drops the lease on the Unifi Router so I then have to connect my laptop directly to the 10gig service port on the Hub and change its IP to be under the 192.168.0.x subnet. I know of no other way to connect to it (other than forcing a static internal IP on the Unifi WAN port which also fails). Enable Modem Mode and unplug the laptop from the service port before it reboots. Not sure if the laptop unplugging is what made it work but I've tried both removing and leaving it in today. Power Cycle the Hub after it reconfigures. I am completely lost and it has failed constantly the last few days.130Views0likes7CommentsModem Mode disables ethernet
3 months in to trying to get an acceptable service from VM and failing miserably. In desperation I purchased a Nest WiFi Pro router and all works well if hub is left in "router mode". As soon as I change hub to "modem mode" the router falls out of bed and there is no ethernet signal. I am minded to leave hub in router mode. Has anyone else had this problem, if so was there a workaround? Incidentally 'Modem Mode" isn't shown in the GUI so I have to modify the URL to read "http://192.168.0.1/?page=modemmode"140Views0likes11CommentsCan Virgin remotely reboot router in modem mode?
I am out if the country and suddenly cannot communicate with devices on my local network at home (Hive, Ring, Tapo etc) which I think means my local network needs a reboot. At home I’d power everything off and back on again, but clearly can’t do this. My Virgin router is in modem mode - can Virgin remotely force this to reboot (may not solve problem if it’s my own router that needs reboot - but would be worth a try)?149Views0likes2CommentsNo Modem Mode on Fibre Hub (Ireland)
Hi, I have just been told by tech support that the new Fiber Hub for full fibre service in Ireland cannot be switched to Mode Mode... I searched on this forum and the issue seems to persist since months and months. Anyone knows when a fix is planned to be put in place? Honestly unacceptable... Thanks a mil2KViews0likes7Comments
