ContributionsMost RecentMost LikesSolutionsRe: get strange result from 'forgotten email address' I am shocked, angered and fully **bleep**-off by what I read in that thread: a long-time user with a problem unresolved for months, finally having to resort to the blunt instrument of an Obudsman. I suspect the final result will be able to be described using words like 'Carpet', 'under', 'sweep', 'wash and white'. What is so dis-heartening is that I now have an activated broadband service (as of about 8 pm yesterday), but I still can;t login. This follows a chat session (last Friday) during which I was assured that the reason I couldn't login to my account was because the broadband service had not been activated, at that time. I now have to mentally prepare myself to have to wait 8 weeks after formally registering a complaint with VM before I can get the Ombudsman to accept a case, which will then require some months to produce a non-sequitur of a result. Already I am regretting this move back to VM - which I initiated because the service support from my previous broadband supplier (Cuckoo Fibre) was so poor! Without having taken legal advice, I am of the opinion that failure to allow me to view my billing history puts VM in breach of contract with me. Under those circumstances,am I not legally justified in disabling the direct debit mandate with my bank until VM rectify their breach of contract? Re: get strange result from 'forgotten email address' Yes, I did let you know of my failed attempts to create an online account with another email, in a reply to your post, about 40 minutes ago. About 30 minutes ago I then extended that reply with a comment that I had tried the same procedure on 2 different browsers on 2 different computers - but now I see no trace of that reply or the edit I did to it in this forum. VM... sigh! Here I will try to paraphrase the essence of my earlier reply: The process of registering a new account worked to the point of my getting a request to verify the email address I used - to which I responded, getting a confirmation that my verification was successful. When I tried to login to the account I received this error: I now know this error occurs on every login attempt to any of the 5 different browsers I have access to on any of the 7 computers I have. So now I have a 'My VirginMedia Account' which I cannot log into. I thought of pushing my luck by using the VM chatbot - but I can I find no way of accessing it. The VM help facility says it has 'all the help I need'; I beg to differ. How do I proceed from here? Re: get strange result from 'forgotten email address' I just tried to register a new VirginMedia account using what I think is a different email address (can't be sure since I don't recall what email address I used years ago for original account). The process worked to the point of sending me an email verification link, to which I responded. However, when I try to logon to this newly created account I get this most wonderful message: No matter how many times I try again to logon I get this same error. I have tried using 2 different browsers on 2 other computers - all give this same error. So now I have a 'My VirginMedia Account' which I cannot access. How to work around this? I have a feeling that this is caused by VM, as part of the account set-up process, requiring me to link my VM account with my O2 account (which I do not possess). But having no option but to proceed with this required linking, it now seems that VM thinks I have an O2 account. This doesn't work of course since I don't have phone which uses O2. But it seems like the only way to logon to my VirginMedia account is to use an O2 account which I don't have. This is all very confusing but seems typical of VM from my memory. Should I try using a chat bot to sort it out - all I can be sure of there is that it will take a very long time and achieve very little. Advice please get strange result from 'forgotten email address' I just signed a broadband-only contract with VM after an absence of some years. Among the tsunami of emails I have received is one inviting me to sign-in to 'My Virgin Media' account (or register for one). I started the sign-in process and immediately selected the 'forgotten password' option. I entered the requested details (name, account no. service area code). the result of the search is strange: So, some questions: What can I do with this? Do I need to create a new 'My Virgin Media' account, assuming the one from years ago is now non-existent? If my old account is still available, how do I find out what email address to use with it? Advice appreciated. Re: How best to retrieve/save/backup email accounts/folders/messages when leaving VirginMedia? "If there's anything we can help with, please let us know" Well, that was the point of my original post - but I guess my need wasn't clearly stated. I'll try again: You said: "We would recommend to move any important mails prior to the broadband account closing..." - exactly how can such emails be moved? I can find no function in the mail.virginmedia.com service that allows me to move or export emails. Right clicking on a selected email (or emails) presents me with a menu that offers (among other actions) to move or copy the selected items - but this move or copy takes place only within mail.virginmedia.com. How can I export selected emails either to an intermediate (text ?) format or directly into another mail service? Or, as I originally asked " am wondering how I should best transfer all the folders and messages from the multiple accounts (with ntlworld.com and with virginmedia.com) I have. How should I package these such that I might be able to get my new service provider to make sense of them? " How best to retrieve/save/backup email accounts/folders/messages when leaving VirginMedia? Having made the decision to switch to an alternative broadband supplier after more than 25 years with VirginMedia and its predecessors, I am wondering how I should best transfer all the folders and messages from the multiple accounts (with ntlworld.com and with virginmedia.com) I have. How should I package these such that I might be able to get my new service provider to make sense of them? Sone of the accounts I manage with Thunderbird as an email client; I know how to back them up, but I don't understand how to retrieve te message from my virginmedia.com accounts. Any advice? And is it true that I have 90 days after cancelling my contract with VM to transfer me emails? How does that work, bearing in mind that my WAN IP address will change? Re: No new emails after switch to a different broadband supplier This is very useful - thanks. I'm not sure I understand it all but I'll investigate further. I remember trying to implement IMAP about 15 years ago: the **bleep**-up was so huge it took me weeks to recover all the emails which got screwed up. But nothing to lose now: it I don;t make the changes I#ll lose all my email anyway. Especially thanks for the info about the 90 days access to the ntlworld accounts after I cancel my VM subscription - that's more than I expected. No new emails after switch to a different broadband supplier The title might suggest the obvious cause of the problem, but I would appreciate some advice on how to get new emails. Here's the scenario: I'm running the desktop email client Thunderbird under Linux Mint, supporting 3 email addresses in the old ntlworld domain. I have been using this setup for more than 20 years. I'm now in the process of migrating to a different broad band supplier; both Virginmedia and the new service are active. With my PC connected to the new supplier's router all broadband services appear to work except that no new emails appear in any of the 3 accounts in Thunderbird. If I connect my PC to the VM Hub3 (?) router, Thunderbird immediately downloads and displays new emails from the past couple of days. Why can't Thunderbird download newly arrived emails from the VM email server when I'm using the other supplier's router? When I look at the settings of these three Thunderbird accounts I don't see which details of the VM server that would be obviously not reachable from another router - but what do I know? Any advice? SolvedRe: how to install Virgin TB Go from Microsoft store No it isn't and no I haven't clicked on any 'forgot your ...' link because they haven't been forgotten. Re: how to install Virgin TB Go from Microsoft store Yes, happens in Firefox, Vivaldi and Edge
