Fundamentally TV360 is totally different software to TiVo/V6, the references to "upgrade" are marketing-led when many would argue that "conversion" is a better description. Whether it's an improvement or downgrade depends entirely on your usage.

The hardware is the same, and connectivity is identical, nothing would change there. The live TV still uses co-ax, and the internet still carries OnDemand & streaming. One major difference is with the multiroom service.

With V6, you have multiple independent boxes, each with their own recording pools which are all mutually accessible. TV360 is designed around one master-box, with additional HDD-less slaves. Thus you have one hard drive to go around the whole house, and one central recording pool visible from all boxes.

If you convert multiple V6 and thus have multiple master-boxes, you retain the hard drives and the ability to select which box records - but the recording pool is shared and visible to all. Also any service faults with additional masters would result in them being replaced with minis and the HDD being lost.
