Wired connection slower than Wi-Fi

I have hooked my new Fire TV Stick 4K Max via an OTG cable with a Uni USB 3.0 Hub.

I have Virgin 1 Gig broadband with a  Hub 4 acting as a modem which is connected to my Orbi router.

When I checked the Wi-Fi speed I was getting around 430mbps. When I hooked the USB hub via a cat 8 ethernet cable to the router it was achieving much less.

I know the Wi-Fi speed is great but I don't understand why it is slower with a wired connection.

Any help is appreciated.

TIA

Have you tried it with a laptop or PC to see if you get faster speeds?

How are you testing the speed, and what speed are you actually getting?

Is the OTG cable definitely USB 3.0?

EDIT: Potentially the USB port on the stick is USB 2.0

USB to ethernet adapters for Fire TV Sticks are 10/100 (100Mbps), not 1Gbps.

What exact model of USB HUB are you using, and is it the HUB that has an ethernet port integrated?

USB Ethernet Adapter, uni USB 3.0 HUB with Ethernet, 1000Gigabit RJ45 LAN Network Adapter, for HardDisk Mouse Keyboard, Compatible with MacBook Surface Pro Windows Chromebook Linux XP https://amzn.eu/d/3EPknY1

This is the one I’m using. Yes it has an integrated Ethernet port and shows it’s at 1000Mbps

Ahh you might be right regarding Amazon Fire Stick.
I was testing the speeds via the fire stick network menu and some other apps downloaded from Amazon.

Next thing I’ll do it check my speeds with a laptop wired to the hub 4. If I’m doing this does it has to be set on router mode as it’s currently on modem mode?

Using a spare ethernet port on your Orbi router will be fine.

Just keep in mind the 940Mbps limit on 1Gbps ethernet ports.

Out of curiosity I decided to test the speeds directly from the Hub 4.
I disconnected the Orbi mesh router and reset the Hub 4.
I connected my Windows 11 laptop directly into the hub using a 1Gbps ethernet/USB c adapter with a Cat 8 cable.

I ran the Samknows RealSpeed test and got the following results:
Again the wired connection is much slower than wifi.

Do you guys think there is something amiss here?

Hey Makaveli24,

Welcome to the community and thanks for taking the time to post here on the forums.
I’m sorry to hear of the issues that you’re having with your connection at the moment, I have been looking into this on our system and can see that there is an issue with the SNR levels of your connection that is the likely cause of the issues that you're having, we would need to send out a technician to have the problem resolved.  I can arrange the appointment from here but would need to confirm a few details via a private message, that I will drop over in a moment. Please look out for the private message and we can get started.
Kind Regards,

Was there ever a resolution to this?  I'm having exactly the same issue.  Have 1GB broadband, firestick hard wired to hub with 1gb ethernet cable and OTG and getting 66mb on the firestick speed test within the network area of settings.

Firesticks generally use 10/100 (100Mbps) ethernet adapters.
