Recently upgraded to 1Gb service. When testing using Realspeed the router download speed checks out at 1152, but the speed to the PC is only 507. The PC is hard wired to the router and is only 1m away with a short cable. The PC network card is a 1Gb card. Why the difference ?

You are seeing the speed at which your PC draws data.
Complex security packages, safe browsing tools, needs less use of VPN,
manufacturers bloatware packages etc can degrade download speed.

sounds more like a problem with your Ethernet driver settings
check the speed/duplex settings

To see 507 Mb/s the NIC speed is >= 1Gb/s full duplex.

Try in safe mode with networking to rule out software issues:

Thank you for the responses. I've been checking this periodically. Some times the Hub to PC speed is good, other times it's poor. This morning The test resulted in 1154 Hub, and only 295 PC to Hub. I restarted in Safe Mode and got 1146 and 948 which is great. Strangely after rebooting again as normal, the speed were back to normal too ie 1196 and 948. So it does seem intermittent as tho there is something going on in the back ground.

You need to determine which software is causing the issue.
In task manager you should be able to disable each process in turn, with a reboot in between, until you find the software causing the issue.
