routers

I use modem mode with a hub 3 amd my own tp link touter which is 5 years old single channel and no recent firmware is available since 2021 and it does have known exploits for my model version.

I was wondering if I do need to  replace my exisiting router for a better model, but would want one that will just plug in and go with no problems, perhaps Asus or netgear for example, one that will update  firmware automatically preffered, but  just a cheap one would do as long as it is secure, so any suggestions would be helpful.

Or If the risk is low, can I continue with my old TP Link as I have had no issues.

All retail type ‘routers’ are always the ones targeted by scammers and the vendors take some time to issue fixes. If you want to future proof, the take a look at the UniFi  range. They are always very quick to issue fixes and being a business class range get much better support than normal ‘retail’ systems.

Thanks for all the advice, I will review the suggestions and upgrade when I decide on a router, and I checked most are backward compatible for older devices, I will also look at security aspects.

Wait a bit as VM is upgrading hub 3s with hub 5s. If this is offered take it and see if you still need your own router.
