Download and Upload Speeds

aduff62
Tuning in

I have a Hub4 in modem mode with an ASUS Gaming Router attached and have the 1GB broadband with 105Mbps upload.

My speed tests over the last 3 weeks have shown the download speeds to be below 500Mbps and now my upload speeds have dropped below 50Mbps. I have reset the hub a few times and used as a router to rule out the ASUS router but the download speeds don't improve and the upload speed goes back to 105Mbps but then falls back down below 50Mbps after a day or two.

I have called Virgin Media but I'm told the internet is working and the speeds aren't guaranteed even though I pay for 1GB connection. I don't feel I'm getting the right support for the issue I'm experiencing and believe it could be some connection issue from the outside box to my premises or the modem could be at fault.

Any help to resolve this would be appreciated.

connect just a PC to the hub in modem mode and reboot hub see what speeds you get

How to get stats from a VM hub (no need to logon to the hub)

Open a web browser and go to 192.168.0.1 router mode or 192.168.100.1 modem mode

  • Click on the “> Check router status” button
  • Click on the “Downstream” tab, copy the text and paste into your reply, do not take a screen shot
  • Click on the “Upstream” tab, copy the text and paste into your reply
  • Click on the “Networking” tab, copy the text and paste into your reply.
    • Do NOT post photos or screen shots they will be rejected as they contain MAC addresses. The board software will automatically change MAC addresses to **:** if done as above.

I have a laptop connected directly to the hub4 which is in modem mode, I'm unable to run a speed test because I have no internet whilst my laptop is connected this way.

I have rebooted my Hub again and now the upload speed is back to normal (105Mbps), not sure how long it will stay like this. Unfortunately my download speed hasn't improved, it's still under 500Mbps.

It seems other users are having the same issue too, I'm not alone. What are Virgin Media doing about these erratic speeds!?

I may just as well downgrade to the M500 package as I not getting wait I paid for when I signed up to the Gig 1 package.

I'm just waiting for a HUB5 to be delivered to replace my HUB4 and will hopefully solve the issue.

I'm a bit sceptical after seeing a couple of posts about the HUB5 one of which says they are constantly having drops on the connection and another their download speeds have been halved.

I'll report back next week once the HUB5 has been installed over this weekend.

My HUB5 arrived on Friday 28th June and installed the following day with a breeze.

Download and Upload speeds back to normal in router mode and modem mode, no further issues.

Maybe my HUB4 was faulty?

@Lee_R - Thank you for sorting this for me...
