Should I replace my Hub 1 even though it still works?

VM have offered to send me a Hub 4 to replace my Hub 1. I'm unsure whether to accept this as my Hub 1 still works, and I don't know if a Hub 4 will be easy to install and reliable. I'm not very confident about my ability to install a new Hub and I can see that some people have issues with their Hub 4. If anyone has any thoughts on this, I'd be very grateful.

Hi @Anna8

Welcome back to the community forums

The Hub 4 is newer and as advised has more available channels for better performance.

You would need to make a Hub change in the near-ish future if you have a phoneline as well. The digital home phone switch over will need a hub 3 or above to be compatible with this move off the copper landline. If you do not have a landline, then no need to worry on this. If you wanted more information on the home phone switch over you can find this here should you need.

The switchover is currently on hold at the time being, but will commence again sometime in the future.

Take the new hub. Yes some people have had problems with the Hub4, this goes for all hubs, but it’s newer and has access to many more DOCSIS channels. There are a large number of users with no problems. If you have a home landline phone and are not in the updated phone areas, you will need a new hub in the future in any case.

Say yes... but tell them you need a Tech to install it and walk you through its features.

I do not work for VM. My services: HD TV on VIP (+ Sky Sports & Movies & TNT sport), x3 V6 boxes (1 wired, 2 on WiFi), Hub5 in modem mode with Apple Airport Extreme Router +2 Airport Express's & TP-Link Archer C64 WAP. On Volt 350Mbps, Talk Anytime Phone, x2 Mobile SIM only iPhones.

Thank you all very much indeed for your really helpful advice. I am always struck by how kind people are on here! I will order the Hub 4 and see if I can get technical support to install it. Fingers crossed it will work!

Have you been able to speak to the team to arrange this AnnaB? If not, let us know and we'll be happy to assist 😊👍

Not quite true.   For clarity, both Hub-4 and Hub-5 are Docsis 3.1 modems with same tuning capability, i.e. 32 x D3.0 and 2 x D3.1 channels.

Hub-5 has a faster CPU, better WiFi & 2.5Gbps LAN port, so it's more "future" compatible.

the available channel count depends how VM configures them & your package.

Don't  believe  what they're saying with the hub4 . There's a common  fault that  they will not address . You'll  be fine if you don't  need to log into the  modems settings  .  I can't  log in to my hub 4 to put mine in modem  mode like many others  . I'll  be asking to downgrade back to my hub 3 for this reason.  .

The Hub 4 is fine.  Mr-Dice is speaking from his own narrow experience.  Pete_at_home is correct about the difference between Hub 4 & Hub 5 and the latter would be preferable for you imo.
