No internet on MacBook

Hi, we moved over to virgin fibre three weeks ago and the wifi has been shockingly bad. I’ve been calling them and their customer service is awful (whole different story) but my MacBook has suddenly stopped working on the internet at all. Whether I use Ethernet cable or wifi. I can connect to my router admin page fine so the connection is there but something is stopping webpages loading. I’ve tried restarting MacBook, updating OS, restarting router, updating router firmware, removing the network profiles and readding, renewing the dhcp lease. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Are you getting broadband on any other devices.

Most of the time, yes. Sometimes it drops out but it’s definitely working more on phones than it is on MacBook.

I get a lot of spinning wheels and buffering on my fire stick but nothing on MacBook. I called virgin for assistance but they wanted to charge me for help…!

There have been a few Mac related issues on here recently and as I am all Apple - I collect them 😎

So look at these and see if any of the fixes works for you - if not report back.

First check this...  no connectivity on Apple kit may be a MAC filtering issue for Apple devices - see if this has the solution for you….

Also, are you running a VPN - if so turn it off and see if that helps - also disable “Private Relay” if thats switched on in your iCloud settings on the phone/mac.

Switching this off solved the speeds issue here….

After a MacOS/iOS update, it may auto turn on Automatic Proxy Discovery for all Wi-Fi networks - so turn it off in network settings as per message 7. In iOs go to Settings>WiFi> tap the blue”I” icon and scroll down and make sure Configure Proxy/‘ is set to off - also that Configure DNS and Configure IP are set to automatic

Cant connect as password is incorrect on iPhone (& Andrex)……. this sorted it…

I do not work for VM. My services: HD TV on VIP (+ Sky Sports & Movies & BT sport), x3 V6 boxes (1 wired, 2 on WiFi) Hub5 in modem mode with Apple Airport Extreme Router +2 Airport Express's & TP-Link Archer C64 WAP. On Volt 350Mbps, Talk Anytime Phone, x2 Mobile SIM only iPhones.

Hi, thanks v much for these suggestions. Unfortunately none of them have worked. Strangely I left the macbook for about an hour and when i came back, one webpage had loaded but it had lost connection again when i returned. So data does seem to be getting through but very rarely. Any one have any other ideas?

Can you post some stats.
For a hub 3/5: go to 192.168.0.1 (router mode) or 192.168.100.1 (modem mode), do not log in, click on the link "Check Router Status".
For a hub 4: go to 192.168.0.1 (router mode) or 192.168.100.1 (modem mode), log in, click on the link "Check Router Status".
Copy and paste the Downstream, Upstream and Network Logs as text (not images). Mask any public IP address.

Are you running your own router that might have MAC filtering?

Might even be worth while doing DHCP reservations as well as looking at your WiFi encryption as some devices are not that great with WPA3 etc
