Signed up for Virgin in October after 10 years with BT and ever since I've been struggling with Wi-fi constantly dropping out. Even the ethernet randomly gives up and starts buffering and dropping out.
I followed the guides to try and put the hub into modem mode. Turns out I've got this god awful experimental/trial 5x hub and even worse, it doesn't do modem not was I informed I would be a guinea pig!
The gentleman who knocked on my door and got me a deal on the 1gig said I could easily continue to use my Asus AX6000.
Is there a way to get rid of this awful 5x?

You believed a Virginmedia salesman at your door?
Really?

On XGS-PON connections Hub 5x is the one and only supported option.
Using the Asus AX6000 in Access Point mode is quite possible.

If you are on the new XGS-PON full fibre network then you have no choice but to have the Hub 5x. The other hubs VM provide are DOCSIS hubs that only work on their traditional copper coax based radio networks.

You can use your AX6000, however, you'll be in a double NAT setup, which may or may not affect you. Or, you can use it in AP mode as already mentioned.
To be honest if wired and wireless devices are affected it could be a bad line (Dirty Fibre).
Create a BQM and post the live link.

Only set one up at 8pm and it's just a red block
No devices can connect upstairs now. WiFi just will not work

Your BQM is very likely not pointing at the correct WAN IP.
Check the instructions page.

So I need to access the router settings and check the router is configured to respond to ping requests on its WAN/Internet port?
Ill try tomorrow as no devices can connect to it

The BQM must point to the Virgin Media Public IP of the VM Hub 5x.

Check the ISP is shown as Virgin Media.

Hey @Fernandofan08. There is no way that is supported by VM. Google is your friend to "replace hub 5x".
Putting your ASUS in the DMZ and dealing with Double NAT might work for you, I think it depends on what you use, incoming firewall rules / gaming etc. If you're just WFH and doing Teams and Zoom it might be ok for you.
I walked away during my cooling off period. Either VM will sort Modem Mode or an AltNet will do the 30 meter dig. My money is on the AltNet delivering first.
