Clearly faulty, tried to report on phone. Spoke to Simeta who was halfway ordering a replacement when the line dropped. Tried to phone again and line dropped again after approx 10 mins. So how actually do I get this fixed, assuming the "overheating" hub (according to other posts) isn't going to burn the house down.

I am so sorry that you have faced this issue with your Hub and we would love to help here. Can I just confirm is the Hub out in a well ventilated area?
Have you been able to try a factory reset on this? To do this push a pen etc into the reset hole and hold in for 30 seconds, this will cause a full factory reset so if you have changed details such as the Hub name or password it will revert to the original on the Hub but you can reset this again after.
