Contract Renewal - New Hub 5 Sent

Hi

I renewed my contract recently and I've been sent a new Hub 5. As I already have a Hub 5 from my last contract is it necessary to swap to the new one as looking at the info on the router they look like there the same? I can understand swapping it if something has changed internally in the hub but changing it for no reason will mean a whole lot of working changing all the devices connected to it for no reason.

Regards

Hi Keith_Wig

You should be able to alter the SSID and Wifi password and security password on the new hub5 to match the details you are already using with your current hub5. (I use the same SSID and passwords as I had with the older hub3 on my hub5, but I do have to enter them into the hub5 browser each time I perform a factory reset)

I don't know for sure if this works, but I've seen forum posts suggesting that if you also use the Connect app then when you install the new hub it will automatically populate and connect with the SSID and passwords from the old hub.

If it aint broke... dont try to fix it.

Leave the old Hub connected and return the new one.

A VM person will advise on here how best to do that, as it could be tricky as its serial number will not be registered on your active VM account, as you havent attached it and switched it on - or have you?

Hi @Keith_Wig

Welcome to the community forums.

Sorry to hear of the confusion with a new hub 5 that has been received.

If this was a part of your order, then it might be that your renewal will not activate until your new hub 5 is activated and as such automatically completes the order on the system on our side. You might also find that as the new hub 5 has been delivered, once Yodel confirms this, the system will activate the new hub and as such would remove your current hub from service.

Is there a reason other than there's no issue with your current hub 5 that you don't wish to replace the hub 5, like customisations or set-up?

No real issue, I just didn't want to go through the process of having to reconnect all the devices back to the new wireless network if I connect the new Hub 5 if it didn't need to be done, and I could carry on using my current Hub 5 and return the new one back to Virgin.

Many thanks for the info. Changed the SSID and wifi password to previous Hub 5 and everything appears to have reconnected to the new hub.
