Cannot See/connect Home Network Connections

Hi Folks.

I have never been able to get my Home Lan working with my Hub 3.0 (Ariss TG2492LG-85) Router.

All connected devices are shown in the Connected devices page; 2x PCs connected to Ethernet and 1x Laptop connected to Wi-Fi plus Phone and other Wi-Fi connections (Tablets etc.)

1x PC and the Laptop run Win11 Home, the other PC runs Win10 Home, the Win 10 PC can see the LAN but can't connect to the the Win11 PC or Laptop. The Win11 PC and Laptop can't see each other or the Win10 PC.

I've tried for years to get my LAN work - could it really be a Hub3.0 hardware issue? I've had others try to solve the issue.

When I click Network in the Win11 or Laptop this is the screen I get.

All help appreciated.

  • The Hub3 will not isolate devices on your LAN from one another.

First thing is to ensure your network setting on Windows is set to Private network, not Public network. When set to public mode it will harden Windows firewall to block connections from the LAN. When set to private mode it will allow some common LAN connections.

Make a Wi-Fi network public or private in Windows - Microsoft Support

I'm assuming your goal is to set up shared folders....

    1. Select the Start  button, then select Settings .

    2. In the Find a setting search bar, type manage advanced sharing settings and select Manage advanced sharing settings from the suggested results.

    3. In the Advanced sharing settings window that appears, under Private, select Turn on Network discovery and Turn on file and printer sharing.

  • The most likely cause is that the home network has been assigned to the ‘public’ profile and Windows blocks any sort of network discovery or file sharing. If this is the case then you would need to switch the network to being on a ‘private’ profile.

This link goes to a page which describes how to chance and change it if necessary, it has screen shots which does make it a lot easier to follow than my attempting to explain it. Ir does refer to Windows 11, but Windows 10 is effectively the same.

The other possibility is that the built-in Windows firewall is blocking the connections but switching the profile should enable it.

  • Thanks for the replies.

All are set to Private with Network Discovery on, also File and Printer Sharing is set to on on all machines.

  • Do you have any third party antivirus or software firewall installed? Some antivirus products contain firewalls which may interfere. If you do, you may need to check its settings.

  • If network shares are not showing up in windows explorer, try to access them manually...

In windows explorer, type two backslashes then the ip address of the computer you are trying to access.

If the computer's ip address is 192.168.0.51 type \\192.168.0.51\ into the address bar.

What happens when you try to manually connect?

Mapping the IP address I get to the Windows Credential screen.

Now I've yet to find an proper step by step on how to use the Windows Credentials, I know where the Credential Manager is:

Do you use the Web or Windows credentials?

Are they unique for each LAN Connection?

Do I need to find the Credentials for all LAN connections.

On a home network the credentials are unique to each PC, log in using any username and password which exists on the target computer you are trying to connect to.

I like to create a separate local user account just for logging into file shares.

Personally I’d use a “proper switch” for the LAN side and only use the Hub for the Internet Gateway.  You know it makes sense. 😉

Personally I'd use a "proper router" and only use the hub in modem mode. You know it makes sense.😉
