Starting a new separate contract under same address.

As I've seen some older posts stating that it's possible to open another contract under my name/account as my mother has been with VM for 14+ years. VM telephone team did not offer any decent price reductions as we wanted to just cut off the Tv/Landline services and only stick to broadband and seeing the deals for new customers astounds me.

Ideally we would want to use the existing broadband before I start a new contract.

My mothers contract should be ending on the 26th this month and we wouldn't want to be without internet so I've been thinking of opening a contract of my own to start early as I don't know how long it would take for VM to deliver.

Any information/tips/advice would be greatly appreciated.

One thing for sure is that they won't allow the two connections to overlap. The question will be how closely they will allow the new one to follow. But try it and see.

My name is NOT Alessandro. That's just a tag Virginmedia sticks on some contributors. Please ignore it.

VM are very cautious about allowing a new contract replacing a previous one at the same address, as a means of getting a cheaper service.

It has been achieved in some cases reported on here, but only after a great deal of protracted effort. You won't find it a simple process.

Thanks I'll take that into consideration.

But we've already left them under my mothers behalf since the Bill was already too high but services won't stop running until 26th.

In theory you could set your start date for the new service the day after the existing account terminates. In reality anything could happen, as already advised by jpeg1, when you factor in the great potential for some VM 'confusion' in the process.

You would lose the right to use/port your existing landline number once the existing account is closed (not a problem though if you no longer want any kind of landline). Any VM email accounts should also be closed down within 90 days of disconnection. New customers cannot create a VM email account.

VM will send you out a new hub which you would have to connect up yourself as a 'Quick Start' installation
