Renew Volt, with O2 downgrade

My Volt contract is up for renewal.
I'm okay with the speed and service, and want to keep the wifi pod.

I do *not* want to keep the expensive O2 contract, I can get what I want on O2 for under half the price (through uswitch).

What's the best way of getting my O2 sim-only plan changed without impacting my Volt benefits (brodband speed boost and wifi pods)?

Do I need to cancel my O2 plan and get a new one through uswitch?
Tried using online chat, no use 😞

Hi @tomknightvm

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Volt benefits are only available on some SIM-only deals, so we'd recommend speaking directly with O2 to see if the SIM plan you're looking to take is eligible for Volt. You can contact O2 directly on 202, free from your O2 phone, or on 0344 809 0202 from any other phone

Moving to an O2 SIM-only deal that is not eligible for Volt will remove any eligibility for Volt benefits you currently have. including the speed boost, data boost and inclusive WiFi pods.

It's easy. Renew via uSwitch with the tariff you want. During checkout, it will log you into O2 and you follow prompts for existing customer and select that you don't need a new SIM. It will start a new 12 month contract though.

Just check that uSwitch deals still include VOLT. I did this several times when an O2 customer, each time before my contract had expired to be on the best value deal. It should say in checkout if VOLT is a benefit before you do final confirmation.

That's really helpful, thank you.
Sadly calling O2 in 202 is a form of torture, but I'll try again 😄

VM don't advertise that Volt only applies to SIMS from VM, they just say you have to be an O2 customer and a VM customer. Do not worry if the checkout tries to scare you with early termination fees, it disappears later in the checkout process before you confirm as you will see on the cost/tariff breakdown summary screen....

Hi @tomknightvm

I followed @unisoft's suggestion last year and I changed my O2 sim via uswitch and am now paying O2 £10 a month for 50GB (boosted to 100GB) and I still kept my VM broadband speed boost.

With uswitch.com, you get the option to login to your O2 account, then if you select that you don't want a new SIM card sending out it lets you keep your current O2 number and starts a new 12 month contract at that new price which nulls out the price you were paying O2.

Current uswitch O2 deals are shown <here>
