Porting landline

When I ordered my broadband and phone package I selected keep my landline number. I just received an email advising my services will be active soon when I get my items delivered but it also gave me a new Virgin Media landline number in the email. Will my BT landline number still be ported over at some point ?

You need your VM landline service to be working first of all (using the temporary number). When the new VM landline is up and running on the temporary number the number port can take place and your temporary number is replaced automatically by the ported number.

One of the VM forum team should reply here within a few days and be able to check for you that a number port is pending on your new VM connection. Your existing BT line needs to be working for the port to happen.

Hi Paulplanetzarg 👋

Welcome to the community! Thanks for posting.

(Also thanks to the community for offering support and advice with this already). As they have correctly outlined, you need the services to be active both with your former provider, and with ourselves so we can request the number port, and complete it. Please be aware, it takes a minimum of 8 working days to complete.

If you do have further issues with the number port - please do return to this thread and let us know! We will be here to help if needed. Thanks for your patience in the meantime! 🌞

Hi Molly. Thanks for your reply. I guess I don't need to do anything then and it will all happen automatically 🙂

Hi. Thanks for your reply so quickly 🙂

Hi. Could I just check something else. Do I need to notify BT that I am moving to Virgin Media and cancel with them or is this done by VM when arranging the number porting ? Many thanks

Hi @Paulplanetzarg,

For the port to complete successfully, the landline service with your previous provider that the number is attached to needs to remain active. If it's not active, we're not able to perform the transfer.

As such, for your peace of mind, I'd recommend contacting your previous provider to ensure that they're not going to disconnect the service before we complete the port. Once the port completes, it should then disconnect the landline service with your previous provider automatically, but that's also something you're best verifying with them.

Let us know if you need any further assistance.

Thanks,
