Porting a BT landline number to Virgin

Hello - I know there are threads on this but. am also having no luck taking my BT number to Virgin; as per other community users, both BT and Virgin are claiming each other has to start the process.... leaving me in the middle getting annoyed!

Can anyone please assist with a foolproof method of doing this?
