blocklist not working

Hi all,

Trying to find out why im unable to add certain emails to blocklist. It was working fine but currently when i select add to blocklist the add button just stays in a greyed out state. I have to cancel it to be able to carry on. It used to say the email has been added to list. Currently the list i had is empty and vanished. There is no message that the list is full, just doesnt allow me to add.

Thankyou

Just a couple of thoughts:

1) Have you tried adding the address to the Blocklist via the settings menu in Webmail? Click on the cog symbol to the right of the main screen, then click on Email. Then click on Blocklist in the submenu. It will show all the addresses that you have blocked and allow you to "Add new address"

2) The blocklist facility in webmail is not an effective way of blocking spam because:

Spammers change their sending address regularly, often by small changes that may not be obvious, simply to beat simple Blocklists such as VM's.  If you do want to stop specific types of spam it is much more effective to do it by setting up Filter Rules in webmail.

Also, remember, of course that the VM "Blocklist"  does not actually block emails from the specified addresses, it just sends them to the spam folder.

Hi, thanks for message. I didnt realise that the blocklist just simply sends message to spam if detected.

I went into the settings page on webmail and the blocklist is empty. I know there were some addresses in the list but all have disappeared. The problem i also have is that im unable to add any to blocklist. The option button gets a bar across it when i try to select it and the only way i can carry on is to cancel the action. It used to work the other week.

Thanks for the update. It was worth a try going via the settings.

However if the blocklist function is not working then it needs a member of the Forum Team (VM staff such as @Vikki_M ) to take this up for you.

Just a thought, but while waiting, for VM to respond again you could check whether the problem is caused by a corrupt cookie in your browser by signing into the VM webmail account from a Private or Incognito tab or window in your browser.

Using a Private or Incognito  tab means your browser will download. fresh copies of any cookies that are needed. If it works ok in Private/incognito mode then it shows the problem is caused by a corrupt VM cookie stored in your browser and deleting all VM cookies will resolve the problem.  You can go then back to using a standard window.

Hi, tried your suggestion of opening browser incognito page and also using different browser, but both with the same results of not able to block. Photo above is what happens when i try.

Thanks

Thanks for the update - it was worth doing to prove it's not a cookie issue.

As I said it needs a member of the Forum Team (VM staff such as @Vikki_M ) to take this up for you. One of them should get back to this thread hopefully today.

Hi Izzy110 👋 Thanks for getting back to us, and for running these troubleshooting steps requested by ourselves and other users on the forum.

It's best if we take a closer look and then we can get this raised to IT if needed. We will just need to send you a PM to confirm a few account details so we can arrange this for you.

I will do this for you now - you can find the PM in the top right corner of the page in your Inbox. 📩 We can then return to this public thread with another update when possible. Thank you for your patience in the meantime!

Wishing you all the best. 🌞

Molly
