VM mail is OK but Thunderbird I cannot login

gus0898uk
Dialled in

I use my Virgin Media email as standby, using Mozilla Thundebird as my main email, emails are fine on the VM and also on my mobile phone, but I am unable to login to Thunderbird for some reason.

We may have a little trouble with this because I am from the analogue era and not fully clued up on IT matters.

I have tried following a couple of youtube videos but that didn't resolve the matter and I note from some posts on here others have had similar problems, but there is not enough detail for me to follow.

I did get to the stage on VM where I had to use anon VM email address to login, but once I saw it would affect all of my VM stuff as well i didn't bother. The problem with dunces is we try to do do things but make matters worse.

Any help appreciated, thanks.

Hi @paul243,
Thank you for your post and thank you @Graham_A for your help. So we can best understand what is happening, can you please let me know do you have a My VM login set up for the email account? Have you generated 3rd party mailing app password?
Thanks,
Zoie

Morning Zoie,

I have a VM login password but don't know about the e-mail login.

A third party mailing password was auto generated last year when my email failed totally.

When I try to generate again I am advised that I cannot use addresses with ntlworld and I must use another address, which I don't have.!

To clarify

1 I am not referring to a VM mail account, which I don't know how to use anyway, I am referring to my Thunderbird account.

2 I can send and receive mail on my PC .

3.I can receive mail  on my i phone.

4 I cannot send mail on my i phone

5 My phone e mail settings are showing the password which was generated previously,

Thank you

Paul

Thanks for letting us know with Thunderbird we wouldn't give advice on this as its a 3rd party app.

We can only guide you , if anything everything is working apart on Thunderbird this is a good sign and means its something to do with that.

I would look at making sure this is fully updated,

Thanks

Thunderbird advise that "we don't specialise in i phones" ! and "no  problem with them."

So it's not Virgin or Thunderbird causing the fault, so where do I go from here?

Anybody had a similar problem.?
