I use my Virgin Media email as standby, using Mozilla Thundebird as my main email, emails are fine on the VM and also on my mobile phone, but I am unable to login to Thunderbird for some reason.
We may have a little trouble with this because I am from the analogue era and not fully clued up on IT matters.
I have tried following a couple of youtube videos but that didn't resolve the matter and I note from some posts on here others have had similar problems, but there is not enough detail for me to follow.
I did get to the stage on VM where I had to use anon VM email address to login, but once I saw it would affect all of my VM stuff as well i didn't bother. The problem with dunces is we try to do do things but make matters worse.
Any help appreciated, thanks.

Thanks Kain,
No problem with any other sites or apps. To clarify, I can send and receive mail from PC and receive mail on I phone 7. I cannot send mail from phone "username or password incorrect."
I didn't know I had a password!
Thanks

PS I am referring to my Thunderbird account , not Virgin mail which I don't use

Consider reviewing the email account's password in Thunderbird by:
Does the problem persist?

Many thanks ,I'll try that when I have the courage!
Does that suggest the problem lies with Thunderbird and not Virgin?

Yes; given the issue does not occur with other email clients, i.e. on your phone

Many thanks, both windows are showing the same 30 character password which was auto generated last year when my e-mail failed totally. How do I know if they are "correct" I have been to VM mail settings but it will not allow me to generate a new password with a "ntl world" address. If I use a "random " password what will be the consequences? I don't want to risk further problems or loss of my e mail address.
Thanks again!

Sorry "random password " should read "random address"

Can I request a password change on my VM mail settings safely by using a random mail address?
The same password is shown for outgoing and ingoing on my thunderbird account and on my I phone.
I'm not good at IT ,would like some further guidance please.
Thanks

@paul243 Depends what you mean by random password. Virgin Media now require the account username to be changed to a non virgin media email address to which you have access.
Once changed this becomes the log in username for the My Virgin Media account and VM webmail. Any future password or other details changes will need to be confirmed using a one time passcode that is sent to the third party email address.

I'm a Very Insightful Person, I'm here to share knowledge, I don't work for Virgin Media, I'm a VM customer. There are no guarantees that my advice will work. Please read the FAQs

Thank you Graham.
Perhaps I haven't explained it clearly.
I am not referring to my VM webmail, I never use it due to consistent problems.
I am trying to fix my Thunderbird account. My email is a non virgin address-paul.with@ntlworld.com. If I try to auto generate a new password using this it is not accepted-so do I invent an address just to obtain a new password to see if it solves the problem
I am now confused, cannot VM tech do this for me
Thanks for you input
