I couldn't log in.  Had to reset Myvirginmedia password.  Now I can only get email by logging on to Myvirginmedia and cant add the account to my gmail account without the virginmedia.com email password.  I tried my password and it didnt work. When I tried to change my password I ended up changing the Myvirginmedia password (again!). There doesnt seem to be any way to get into the virginmedia.com email password to view or change it.

You need to generaete an App Password, see following:

Setting your app password to use an Email app.

If you want to access your Virgin Media emails from an app, you’ll need to create a separate app password through Account settings on My Virgin Media.

To get the password, follow these steps:

Sign in to My Virgin Media
a. Go to Account settings, then Account details
b. Tap Manage next to Manage your Virgin Media Mail app password under Virgin Media Mail
c. Then, under Virgin Media Mail app password tap Generate new App password and follow the instructions.

A new secure password will be generated for you. Your app password can be used for all apps accessing your Virgin Media mail address. If you create a new app password, you’ll need to update all your existing apps with the new password.

We need to give you a separate app password to help make things more secure as IMAP and POP don’t support extra protection steps, like Multi Factor Authentication.

Remember that this password is separate from your sign in details for My Virgin Media (or any Virgin Media apps). So, if you need to check your Virgin Media Mail emails through My Virgin Media or at mail.virginmedia.com, you'll still use your My Virgin Media password.

Thanks.  I've done that and it worked.  I'd already got the app password but didn't realise that was what my phone settings needed and when it asked for password I just kept putting my regular virginmedia password.  When I put in the app password it worked

Thank you for reaching out and letting us know this.

Please do reach out if you need anything going forward. Cheers

New around here?

How can you obtain an app password for a secondary virgin account as the only option is to "delete account". - the app password seems only to apply to the main account.

@SimpleAshtead You generate the app password from the My Virgin Media account for the secondary account concerned.  Each email address has its own My VM account.  Your post implies that you are signed into the primary MyVM account rather than the secondary one.

Thanks - that is what I have been trying to do but can't access the secondary accounts except to delete them. How can I reach the secondary accounts to generate the app password?

@SimpleAshtead  The first step is to log out of the My VM account that you are currently logged into.  Then follow these steps.

Secondary accounts changes now have to be made via the My Virgin Media account for the secondary email.

Sign into the account here: https://www.virginmedia.com/my-virgin-media using the email address concerned and the current password. Once logged in click on Account Settings then Account details. You should now see the options to change password etc.

If that isn't available try https://www.virginmedia.com/my-virgin-media/forgotten-details/password

If no security answers have been set for the email address concerned then you will need to call in for support and select technical issues> email
