@fdj12  There seems to be a lot of misunderstanding around these username changes even amongst the VM telephone support staff.  Your blueyonder email address has not been changed to a gmail one - there is no way that VM could do that as they have no connection with Google/Gmail.  What has changed is that you now need to use a third party email address as the username to sign into your blueyonder email address via My Virgin Media or VM webmail.

You can read about these changes here: https://www.virginmedia.com/dpb/help/change-my-virgin-media-email-address.

Of course it is entirely up to you if you want to stop using the blueyonder email address and change all your contacts to a gmail address, or any other email for that matter, but VM are not forcing you to do that.

Provided that the blueyonder email address is attached to your current VM broadband account it will continue to be supported by Virgin Media.  I have a blueyonder email address and that still works.

You cannot reverse the change of the username once it has been switched to a third party email address.

What happens when you try to access the blueyonder email address via VM webmail using this link: https://mail.virginmedia.com/  ?  Make sure that you are signed out of any other Virgin Media accounts before trying this.  You will need to sign in with the username that is now the gmail address and enter the blueyonder account password in the boxes on the sign in page.

Sorry, you can’t change your sign in details to a @blueyonder.co.uk email address, please choose a different email.

As expected.  I did say in my last post that you cannot change the username back to the blueyonder one or to any other VM email address for that matter.

However, as I also pointed out it doesn't stop you from using the blueyonder email address with the new username.

I have the same problem . Like you I was forced by the lack of options to change my blueyonder address but still can’t find a way to change my email address . I don’t get an option to do that just to generate a third party App . Is it me or do VM keep changing the rules? Are you trying to make it so difficult we will give up and go elsewhere . This is one solution or are VM as a company so bad at streamlining their processes to make them accessible . You shouldn’t need to be an IT genius to do simple things like changing passwords . Other companies achieve it why not VM? I have read the post thread and have had the same experience but simply don’t understand why it’s been made so complicated . I am trying to impose logic but it doesn’t make any sense . So do I continue to give people my blueyonder address or the new one I was forced to change to? How does that work ? Where does the third party app password fit in? I have looked all over the VM app and can’t find an option to change my password. Where is it please? Like the other contributor I have spent ages trying to sort it on my own . I am reluctant to phone the helpline because that way leads to time and frustration and often an y resolved issue . I am not generally a negative person but VM services drive me to distraction

Hi @jamesBond1

Welcome back to the community forums

Sorry to hear of your concern with the steps to change your username and generate an app password.

This wouldn't affect the email itself, it is only the log in details that it would change at this time. Your log in email/username would now need to be changed to a non Virgin Media email.

The third party password would be used when you're looking to access your emails through an email client and mail app. To generate an app password you can follow these steps
1. Login to your MyVM Account
2.Click the Account Settings tile
3.Next, select the Virgin Medial Mail Settings tile
4.The next page will display a Red Button labelled 'Generate new App Password'
5. You'll then be presented with an automatically generated password.

Let us know if you're still having any issues with generating an app password at your side and what, if any, error messages you see.

Here to help 🙂
