Unable to log into Live Mail to recieve virgin media email with ntlworld.com.

During the past few days I have been unable to log into Live Mail in order to view any newly received emails. Although I can access previous emails from Live Mail. I am logging in the same way as usual, for which the password manager automatically completes my E mail address and also the password. But now, those details  for logging on to the  pop.ntlworld.com server, are being rejected.

I have, over the last month or so noticed that a number of my outgoing emails have not been sent. These being indicated with the following message :

The message could not be sent because the server rejected the sender's email address. The sender's email address was .......

Any advice as to what has gone wrong would be appreciated.

The error message shows that the email server settings you are using in Live Mail are well of date so you need to update those. That's backed up by the Microsoft error code 0x800CCC78 which usually means there are issues with server or authentication settings being used,

These are the settings that you should be using: (Use either the IMAP or POP3 settings depending on which you currently use)

    IMAP settings (recommended)
    Host Name: imap.virginmedia.com
Username: your full Virgin Media email address
Password: your Virgin Media email app password
    Advanced settings
    SSL Encryption: Enabled
Port: 993 (this may be automatically chosen by selecting SSL encryption)

POP3 settings (the alternative to IMAP)
    Host Name: pop3.virginmedia.com
Username: your full Virgin Media email address
Password: your Virgin Media email app password
    Advanced settings
    SSL Encryption: Enabled
Port: 995 (this may be automatically chosen by selecting SSL encryption)

    SMTP settings
    Host Name: smtp.virginmedia.com
Username: your full Virgin Media email address
Password: your Virgin Media email app password
    SSL Encryption: Enabled
Port: 465 (this might not be selected automating by enabling SSL, so please check)
    Authentication: Password

If you have not already done so you will also need to generate a Mail app password and use that in the settings - the password you use to access your VM account online will no longer work in an email client such as Live Mail.

    To do that:

Sign into the My Virgin media account with your VMO2ID of this email account.
    1Select Account Settings
    Select Identity & Security Settings
    Select Manage your products
    Select Manage email app password
Click on the blue button 'Get New Password'

Try all that and see how it goes.

Bear in mind that Microsoft stopped supporting Livemail many years ago so you may well find problems caused by glitches in the software that have arisen and Microsoft have not fixed.
